Black Panther makeup Insider
Black panther, beauty is part of the storytelling. The makeup artists and hairstylists on set felt a responsibility to celebrate and honor the diversity of African style, traditions, and body art. Their research and reinterpretations are reflected within the various characters seen throughout the film
Each hairstylist and makeup artist from the film listed a plethora of tribes and cultures that influenced the visuals of Wakanda. Camille Friend the hair head of department said that they were inspired by the women warriors of Senegal, the Himba from Namibia, the Ashanti tribe from Ghana, and the Zulu people. They used many authentic African hair styling techniques and products like mud, ties, grasses, and beads to create the world of Wakanda.
